Leya Marie Deschuymer
I explore the joy of being in my paintings and the possibilities that lie beyond what we may be able to see with our eyes. For example I often paint trees like they have human characteristics. The poplar in ‘Standing Alone’ is a reflection of me during my healing journey and ‘Sentinel’ reflects those who protect the wild places that we love. Through my work, I would like to continue to express the consciousness that expands beyond what we can even imagine at this time.
I choose the subject matter for my paintings after I have gone for a walk with my camera. I load the photos onto my computer and scan them quickly until one or two jump out at me. I know when the painting will turn out well when the process flows easily and I am full of joy.
